Market and New Stock Roundup
Now that longer days and brighter skies are with us to stay (not withstanding the wettest May since 1967), we are pleased to announce that business is busy. With the parts store, workshops and showroom firing on all cylinders, our team are working hard to provide the parts, service and cars you need to ensure an enjoyable summer.
Our showroom continues to be a hive of activity, with a plethora of interesting cars moving in and out of the building. Our UK supplied California Pagoda has now moved to a new home, hopefully taking with it the climate from the state after which it was named! In recent months we have also found a loving new home for the exceptionally rare unrestored 13,000 mile 280SL Pagoda – the most original 280SL we have come across to date and a truly special car. We are proud to have supplied such a car to the enthusiastic new owner, and relived that it is both staying in the country and destined to be used as a well set up Pagoda should be.
A selection of fine R107 SLs have changed hands in recent weeks, with the Pine Green 500SL relocating to Scotland and our Midnight Blue 300SL returning to it’s very first owner… more on that story in the coming months. Two exceptional examples of the R129 SL came into stock and were snapped up in a matter of days, testament to the increase in interest that we are witnessing in the R129 market. The 280SL Pagoda still reigns supreme in the world of classic Mercedes-Benz desirability, but quality R107s and very special R129s are proving to be perfect garage companions for Pagoda connoisseurs.
As the country opens up, our advice is to move quickly to secure the car you love. Enquiries are at an all time high, so if you are thinking of buying or indeed selling an SL, contact our sales team to discuss your requirements.
Today we focus on 5 new additions to the showroom, reaching across the decades of the SL timeline. Below we look at each of these cars… in age order.
1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL
The oldest car to feature in our New Stock roundup is this exceptional 450SL. Although this is technically a 1979 car, it wasn’t registered until 1981, as the first owner was an established motor trader who owned a number of new car showrooms. This car would appear on display in his showrooms for many years, meaning the car has accrued just 6,500 miles across almost five decades. A highly original 450SL, complete with a V8 engine and a very period correct colour combination. On the smart ‘Mexican Hat’ alloy wheels, this is an SL that really must be seen to be appreciated. A very rare opportunity to secure a low mileage, early R107 SL with a fantastic story.
1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SL
Our second early car to be featured today is this superb 380SL, another V8 but this time the 3.8 litre 380SL. We don’t often see these cars through our showroom, and a good 380SL is joy to drive. Finished in Blue Green metallic with Beige interior, this car boasts colour matched chrome hub caps and some neat additions from the previous owner. A very usable car, with low mileage and coming from a good home. The current owner has moved to pastures new and gone for a 5.0 litre V8 powered R129, in a not dissimilar colour. His move to a newer model might just be your route into the fantastic world of R107 ownership. A lovely car that we have known for some years.
1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SL
Nautical Blue is an iconic R107 SL colour which SLSHOP have made famous thanks to Bruce Greetham’s superb Nautical Blue 500SL. This car was featured across a variety of magazine and websites, as well as a lot of our print media and signage. It’s a colour that everyone seems to appreciate, a deep and luxurious blue that is perfectly complimented by a beige interior. In recent years it seems the supply of Nautical Blue SLs has dwindled, so it’s exciting to welcome a car in this shade back into the showroom once more. With just over 60,000 miles on the odometer, this smart looking SL is ready for a new adventure. A lovely looking car in a colour that will always be hot property in SL circles.
2001 Mercedes-Benz SL320
Towards the end of R129 production, a number of special edition cars were offered which introduced a varied palette of unique finishes. The Designo range offered a huge choice of personalisation and upgrades, leading to some very desirable colour combinations. This ‘Heritage Edition’ SL320 V6 is a superb example of a very special R129, finished in Designo Alanine Green Metallic with rare and elegant split rim 17 inch AMG alloy wheels. With luxuries such as the panoramic glass roof and heated seats, this is a beautiful car inside and out. We particularly like the way the beige leather is further contrasted by black carpeting and dashboard. A very smart car indeed.
2004 Mercedes-Benz SL350
Staying with the V6 theme we have our newest entrant to the showroom both in terms of time on site and age. This superb 2004 SL350 was purchased new by the only keeper for just over £61,000, with a number of choice options bumping the purchase price up from the manufacturers recommended retail price. The specification on this car is simply divine, including parktronic, a panoramic glass roof, heated seats and that beautiful chestnut wood finish on the interior. With just one owner from new and 33,000 miles showing, this exceptional ‘modern classic’ won’t be hanging around the showroom for long.
To discuss any of these cars in more detail, contact our showroom. Both Bruce and Joe will be happy to talk classic Mercedes-Benz and tell you more about the cars on site… as well as any that might be coming soon. Cars can always be secured with a refundable deposit, so don’t risk missing out because of time or distance constraints. We look forward to hearing from you.
SLSHOP are always looking for high quality SLs of all ages. if you are looking to part with your SL, call SLSHOP first. We are particularly interested in R107 SL and SLCs, Pagodas and R129s.
