There is a distinct feel to the R107’s road presence – weighty, planted and decisive but with a slivering of body-roll. The latter is one of the major criticisms of the R107 SL and one element that all owners want to eliminate… Our handling improvements are suitable for all R107 variants from across the production period.  

Our objective is simple, to give you confidence to glide into each corner and leave each junction with determination.  

As the world’s leading SL specialist, we’ve tried all sorts of modifications to improve the handling of both the six- and eight-cylinder R107 variants, and if we had it our way, every single R107 should have this one improvement. Our anti-roll and drop-link upgrade will give your 107 cornering capabilities akin to a modern car. The turn-in and reduction in body roll will give you sharp handling and coupled with a finely adjusted steering box, you’ll be seeking out the corners.

Cracked and leaking shock absorbers or split springs will result in a variety of acute and chronic issues such as poor handling and stopping power, putting yourself and other road users in danger. Replacing these components will not only improve safety, but also reduce unwanted noises and stop you from taking a detour to avoid speed bumps or gravel tracks.   

By design the earlier R107 models from the pre-1986 era is well known for lifting at the front upon harsh acceleration. To reduce this, anti-squat bars mounted on shackles were implemented but over time these can perish. Replacing these will improve the way you accelerate and prevent the notorious ‘front-lift’.  

It might be frowned upon by the purists but opting for a slightly bigger tyre can give a slightly more stable feeling on the road for some. The 215/65-15 (slightly bigger tyre and fatter in the wall) was only fitted to the 560SEC and provides more footprint on the road to offer a more planted feel.  

The R107’s steering wheel is known for its large diameter reminiscent of the classic styling from whence it came. Opting for a smaller steering wheel such as those from the 124 or 201 can give offer a more direct feeling. This will also improve accessibility.  

As with all our SportLine commissions, bigger breaks offer you better stopping ability, while also improving economy and handling on A roads. We utilise vented discs across the front and the rear of our R107 commissions, improving the overall feel of your car during day-to-day driving. Performance breaks also allow for more aggressive breaking with guaranteed improved longevity. 

For those with 300SLs, we will remove the casing of the differential and replace the internals with the components of a Limited Slip Differential. This will immensely improve traction and acceleration from standing and when at pace.
