As March gives way to April we’re finally seeing the onset of spring, with the odd summer day presenting a welcome surprise… although if you are reading this as snow is falling then the curveballs of 2021 refuse to disappoint!
With brighter days, warmer weather and the prospect of a more relaxed summer feeling tantalisingly close, what better time to introduce some fantastic new convertibles to the showroom?
Our showroom has been consistently busy throughout the year, with a special focus on the Pagoda. We are seeing an increase in demand for these cars, with good driving, well presented 280SLs still driving customer demand.
The SL500 with two personalities
Mercedes-Benz introduced the Designo program in 1996, a way for buyers to further customise their cars from the factory. The Deisgno scheme came with a raft of exciting paint and interior finishes, producing some very rare cars indeed. Shown here is an SL500 in ‘Designo Varicolor Green Blue 017’, a superb shade of deep tropical blue that presents as aquamarine or deep navy depending on the light.
In a recent conversation with a client via WhatsApp, we photographed this car in the dimly lit showroom and then outside in bright sunlight. The client replied asking which of the two cars we intended to send… A split personality SL.

The SL500 with every box ticked
Here at SLSHOP we have seen our fair share of exceptional cars, and do like to wax lyrical when a special car hits the showroom. It is hard for us to understate the gravity of just how good this car is, from the specification to the story – it was delivered new to the UK director of Mercedes-Benz. Who better to go through the options list when ordering a car? Not only is it finished in the rare shade of Green Black, but it has the Exclusive leather option more usually found on the V12 models.

The 280SL with all the history
When it comes to putting together the descriptions for our website, we get to know the history of any given car. The 280SL shown here arrived at SLSHOP with possibly the most comprehensive history file we have ever seen. With a traceable ownership journey that pins the car around Gloucestershire since the day it was new, it now comes from a four-decade long ownership and is ready for a new custodian.

The 300SL a shade after midnight
Another car looking for a new keeper from long term ownership is this Midnight Blue 300SL, a car that has spent 20 years with the current keeper. In the desirable shade of Midnight Blue with Grey Leather, it also benefits from rear seats, headlamp was wipe and a dark blue soft top. A lovely car in every way

The 420SL in triple black
Rare paintwork has been a developing theme of this article, and the final car on the roster carries the mantle with pride. In all our time selling these cars we have seen less than a handful in the attractive combination of Black with Black, and only two of these are late cars with V8 engines.

The Polar Opposite – The 300sL in Arctic White
In stark contrast to the Triple Black 420SL, here we have a rare Arctic White 300SL, with just 44,000 miles from new. With crisp blue fabric interior and some choice options, this is a lovely 300SL that’s ready for the summer.
