Have you owned your R107 for years and just put up with some of the quirks characteristic of a classic Mercedes? Have you become content with the internal heating/air conditioning fans just not working? Do you just drop the hood to get fresh air when you want it, windows down and head out of the door like a dog? We know. We’ve been there, too.
It’s most likely that you’re one of hundreds (or even thousands) of owners around the world that have experienced a dysfunctional flow of fresh air, with thanks to one failing component… If you’ve been there, let us know in the comments below. For now, you might be asking why this is important?
Well, the fans that control the flow of warm or cold air (depending on whether you have air conditioning), into your R107 SL’s cabin are dependent on a Fan Speed Resistor Unit which is the connection point between the dashboard fan controls ((0, 1, 2, 3, DEF), and the speed at which the blades spin. This has previously only been available as a refurbished item, often in scarce availability and not available through mass-market entities until now.
CURING THE LACK OF SUPPLY:
As owners and enthusiasts, we want you to be able to enjoy your R107 all year round with a working heater and/or air conditioning (should you be lucky enough to have this as an option on your R107). We’ve developed this new Resistor Unit to operate more efficiently than the original and to be easily fitted at home or by your local garage wherever you are in the world.
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU NEED ONE?
Asks yourself the following questions to establish if your resistor fan is faulty.
- Does your cabin fan start at its own accord even when set to off?
- Do road bumps cause the fan to cut out?
- Do certain speeds just not work? Are you only getting air flow at position 2?
These issues are generally signs that your resistor unit is not working. We advise a replacement and also a check of the plenum chamber to ensure your Bulkhead is not compromised.
About this unit:
After 14 months of development, we are delighted to present you with the first off-the-shelf replacement modern reproduction unit, developed to operate more efficiently than the original. Instead of using a fragile Bakelite base plate and the corrosive steel internals, our Exclusive reproduction part features Epoxy composites and solid copper conductors which are far more reliable. In addition, this unit is completely enclosed to prevent water ingress, which is a common issue associated with original units and often indicative of bulkhead corrosion.
You can now order your Fan Speed Resistor Unit directly from our Parts Store, simply visit the link below.
If you’re unsure how to fit this item, fear not, we’ll be releasing a ‘How-to Guide’ outlining how to fit this item over the coming months. Sign up to our emails to be notified or subscribe to our YouTube channel.
