Our Purpose: Unearthing and offering rare parts to owners around the world.
In 2020 we made headlines with our acquisition of an enormous haul of rare ‘new-in-box’ Heritage Mercedes Parts from Holland, and today we’re delighted to report a similar acquisition, albeit on a smaller scale. With our growing inventory and new website featuring 26 Mercedes-Benz model categories, the timing couldn’t have been more suitable for the addition of these unique parts.
Over the years we have been delighted to build relationships with suppliers and competitors around the world, allowing us to work collectively to support owners on all continents. These relationships sometimes culminate in acquisitions. In this particular case, the company in question has decided to close it doors and has left us in charge of a large quantity of their exciting components. From W113 Pagoda to modern R231 replacement parts, the variety is extremely large; some of which we will be cataloguing and making available to you over the coming weeks.
Many of these items are essential to preserving the Heritage models from the Mercedes-Benz back catalogue. Without these items, restoration companies and individuals around the world will not be able to revive their vehicle for future generations to witness. Our duty is to those who share our passion – to preserve and enjoy these iconic vehicles.
Where our previous Holland haul was largely made up of items from the W113 and R107 model ranges, this one places the R129 in the limelight. Now over 30 years old, the R129 is the last of the over-engineered SLs and one could be forgiven for considering it a modern classic with all the tech they feature. That being said, the R129 is becoming more classic in looks than modern classic.
Without further delay, here’s a selection of our R129 Product Manager Andy Smith’s top picks from this recent haul:
R129 SL COMPONENTS
The R129 SL completely revolutionised the way we think of mobility – suddenly additional driver comforts became available to the well-to-do individual. But it wouldn’t take long for these to trickle down into everyday cars. Electrical components with the R129 SL are notorious for causing issues, with only a few specialists left who understand these intricate systems. The control modules found as part of this acquisition, are exactly the replacement electrical modules required to return an R129 to its former glory.
Seat Adjuster Control Unit With Memory
This unit enables you to adjust your seat using the control panel by your internal door handle. The unit has a special memory function to enable you to reset your chair to your desired setting with the push of a button. The R129’s seats were so innovative, Mercedes-Benz filed over 20 patents for the technology found within them…
This is a very useful and special original module indeed. Unfortunately, only one of these original components is available so act fast!
SL60 Badge – COMING SOON
One of the first models by Mercedes-Benz to take AMG on their journey from luxury tuner to the household name we now know so well, the SL55, SL60 and SL73 are rare cars indeed and as such so are replacement badges. It is not uncommon for you to see people 3D printing these badges and spraying them in a chrome finish to use on their vehicles. This is an original badge that is deserving of a new boot to sit atop.
R129 Hydraulics/Vac System Right Side Valve:
The hydraulic suspension found on the R129 SL was a marked diversion from its predecessor, but allowed the height of the car to be adjusted. Given the weight of each R129 SL this form of suspension was preferable but with it comes a complex array of issues. The elements of this suspension setup are extremely complicated and are not widely available on the market.
Cruise Control Actuator – 450 SL
Cruise control marked a new era for motorists and manufacturers. Those with this feature were certainly on the brighter side of wealth, particularly as it was an optional extra with the R107 and only standard with the more expensive V8 models offered by Mercedes-Benz. Over time, the actuator can fail due to age and cause the cruise control to either work intermittently, at only certain speeds or not at all. If its not the module that needs replacing, then chances are a new actuator is needed.
Tempomat Cruise Control Switch – 300, 420 & 500 SL
Over time, switches and controls inside your cabin can look tired and weary. Sometimes a replacement is just the change required to freshen up the interior – if you’re selling a car in particular, this could be one of those minor changes that will mean the world to a new buyer. This is a job you can do at home and nothing too challenging. Being an original item, this has been tested to confirm working order.
450 SL Boot Badge – COMING SOON
The 450 SL replaced the 350 SL in 1973, running up until 1980 before it was phased out. By our last count, their were only approximately 300 450 SLs in the United Kingdom, making it one of the least voluminous of the R107 SL variants. With this in mind, it will become harder to acquire an original 450 SL boot badge, which is why we are pleased to offer this individual replacement.
Fix Up Look Sharp with New Chrome
Chrome Seat Covering | Chrome Boot Trim | Rear Screen Chrome Trim-Right Side
The R107 SL featured minimal amounts of chrome in comparison to its predecessor. But despite this lower amount of sparkle, you immediately notice tarnished or missing chrome when observing an R107 SL. These original replacements will fix up your R107 SL’s exterior and make it look sharper than before.
The R107 has a distinctive look, recognisable to most generations and especially from the side angle. The chrome section that flanks the rocker panel gives the definition to the R107’s profile, which means that it should looked after. Dull chrome should be replaced immediately to bring the R107’s aesthetics back up to new condition.
This is just a selection of the new parts acquired by SLSHOP Parts Store over the past few weeks. There are many more items to be listed on our website under all 26 categories; we advise you to sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know about new stock for your vehicle.
