Pagoda perfection is a mindset: A belief amongst all sixty members of SLSHOP’s team, that every W113 Pagoda that we are asked to perfect, is approached with the same patience and attention for detail as the next. Our responsibility is to infuse the owner with confidence in our craftsmanship, guiding them through the restoration process by involving them with every step of the journey. And this is exactly where we started with this project.
Aptly nicknamed ‘White W113’, this Pagoda recently arrived at SLSHOP in a very sad state indeed, with an owner on the verge of giving up. It was our responsibility to give the owner confidence that this ‘once perfect’ Pagoda could be revived to a better standard. Over the course of the next few months, we thought we’d involve you in the same journey as the owner, giving you weekly updates on the progress of this Pagoda.
This is where the journey started: A dilapidated exterior with a poor paint job concealing a whole host of rot and structural issues.
As you can see, the rear quarter repair panel had been fitted badly by another establishment, and moisture has gotten trapped where the outer boot floor panels and the rear quarter panel meet. There is also a badly welded outer wheel arch repair panel which has been compensated with nearly an inch of body filler.
It has been a slow process, but SLSHOP craftsman Tom has carefully been tending to all the problem spots, replacing the chassis rails and sills on both the passenger and driver’s side. New boot floor panels will be fitted, as well as a whole new set of rear panels. We’ll showcase how the Pagoda now looks over the next week.
Tom is currently working on the front of the Pagoda, before finalising all the panel gaps to ensure they match the measurements from the factory. The body will then be carefully coated in rust-prevention solution before being repainted.
