2021 marks 50 years of the Mercedes-Benz R107 SL, having arrived on our roads back in 1971. As the world’s leading classic SL destination, we’re leading the way with a busy schedule of activities for you to get involved with.

7 Ways to be involved with our 50th Celebrations
1. Meet our very own ’50th Anniversary SL
The best sort of birthday present is a gift that can be shared… To mark 50 years of the world’s favourite SL, we’ve bought a car that we fully intend to share. Wrapped in a beautifully designed 1970s colour scheme, this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL is our car of the year. With a V8 engine and unusual Bamboo Interior, this rare ‘no headrest’ R107 will get no rest as it embarks on a wide variety of activities throughout the year.
Amongst the shows this car is scheduled to attend will be the London Classic Car Show and the Goodwood Revival; though it’ll be appearing at many other classic shows and events.

2. Join a convoy of 50 SLs… for a journey to remember
On Friday 23rd July an exceptional convoy will leave SLSHOP, heading down to Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey. We are aiming to put together a cohort of no less than 50 Mercedes-Benz R107 SLs for this journey to remember. The day will start at our Stratford-Upon-Avon base, before departing for the short drive to Caffeine & Machine. Once man and machine are suitably fuelled, 50 SLs will fire into life, creating a rolling classic car show along some of the finest roads in middle England.
After heading south through the greenery of the Cotswolds we’ll pick up the M40 at Oxford for the final sprint to Brooklands.
On our arrival at Mercedes-Benz world a troop of photographers will document the occasion, capturing the magnificent spectacle in front of the iconic museum building.
This is going to be an automotive spectacle to behold, a once in a lifetime chance to join in with a Mercedes-Benz event like no other.

3. Join us for a driving tour in your SL… Drive more, see more, do more!
Our 2021 plans include two SL only tours, the Cotswold Tour and Wales Tour about which we have already written. These events are selling fast, so be quick with your deposit to secure a space for your car. A group of like minded people, winding through the countryside in a snaking line of beautiful classic Mercedes-Benz convertibles… fine dining, sight seeing and new friends. A great way to raise a toast to the R107 SL.

4. Join us for another exciting SLSHOP Open Day… All are welcome!
Late in the summer of 2021 we will once again roll up the doors for another action packed open day. Guests will be invited to see what we do up close, strolling through the showrooms and workshops to understand what makes SLSHOP tick. We’ll have cars ready and waiting for accompanied test drives, a series of talks and workshops to attend and of course, refreshments available from local suppliers throughout the day. We’ll also be announcing the winner of our ‘See it, Snap it, Share it competition’. More information will be released in the coming weeks and months, so do keep an eye on social media and your inbox. 5. Buy a classic Mercedes-Benz SL in 2021… Is it time you did…?
Bruce and the showroom team are busy curating an eclectic mix of cars as we look towards the spring, with a Mercedes-Benz SL for every driveway. What’s more, for 2021 every car sold will also come with a special 50th Celebration Pack, so why not make 2021 the year you take the plunge and become an SL owner? The advent of the 50th anniversary will put the R107 SL in the limelight throughout the year, with a great deal of magazine coverage and of course, nationwide events. With this renewed focus we are expecting to see an increase in enquiries from across the R107 SL spectrum, from early cars in period colours to the late cars we are all familiar with. In 2020 we introduced many people to the R107 SL for the first time, so we look forward to making your SL dream a reality.

6. Get Fifty for £50… Fifty special offers from the Parts Store
The 50th Anniversary Celebrations aren’t just limited to the showroom. The team in our Parts department have put together an exciting range of offers, all gathered together in the aptly named 50 for £50 category. Included in this special offer are essential items, service items, improvements and exclusives, as well as a range of merchandise and gift ideas.
7. Buy parts for your classic Mercedes-Benz SL… and give a little extra
Throughout 2021 a percentage of every sale processed through the parts store (online and over the phone) will be accumulated for a charitable donation. Each transaction will contribute either 50p, £5 or £50 to the charity fund, all of which will be donated to a local cause in January 2022. We’ll keep this total updated at set points throughout the year, a simple way to improve your classic Mercedes-Benz whilst doing a little bit for a good cause.
