At SLSHOP, our people are the key ingredient in what we do. For 10 years we have been at the forefront of the classic Mercedes-Benz world, with a vibrant showroom, busy workshops and constantly expanding parts department. Over the coming weeks we’ll introduce you to our team in this series of articles.
Meet the Team – Tom Hook, Parts Department Sales Manager
What is your role at SLSHOP?
As Sales Manager of the parts team, my main daily objective is ensuring that parts requests and orders are dealt with in a timely and professional manner, with the utmost service. We strive to keep your classic SLs on the road.
My daily tasks also include leading the parts sales team members giving training and advice on certain areas and aspects of the business. This includes training sessions from better customer service to aspects of the various models where necessary, ensuring the best quality of service is provided no matter who the advisor is.
What is your history with the SL?
When I first started with SLSHOP my only exposure to the SL was through the TV show ‘Dallas’…! As time has gone my passion and enthusiasm have gone on leaps and bounds, and there is always more to learn. since my early days with the SL Shop, I became fixated with the various SL models and the beauty of these cars. My main ambition and drive is to know every detail of the SL range from small to large; ever expanding my knowledge and to enjoy my passion for these vehicles.
What is your favourite model of Mercedes-Benz?
My dream classic Mercedes-Benz has to be a 300SL Gullwing, the original W198. For something more modern, I’d take a 190e 2.5 16v Evolution, an icon that I remember from my youth!
What is your dream specification Mercedes-Benz SL?
I’d go for a really late model 300SL, let’s say a 1989… it’d have to be in Black (0400) with the rare Palomino Leather (274) interior. Options wise I’d want Perforated Leather, Rear Seats and Heated Front Seats… but i’d also want to add a few extras from our own SportLine parts range. I’d have my SL on 15 inch Mexican Hat alloy wheels, with the upgraded SportLine anti roll bars for improved handling. Yes, that’d be the one, not that I’ve been thinking about it or anything…
What are your hobbies outside of SLSHOP?
Other than constantly dreaming about SLs, my other hobbies include rock climbing, which helps improve my fitness and keeps my mind focussed. I like to attend local classic car meetings and also love riding my motorbike on the open roads to clear the mind.
