January has started strong for Bruce and the SLSHOP team – the showroom continues to be a hive of activity despite the current closure.
After a longer than usual (and well deserved) Christmas break, we got straight back to it in the first week in January and cars have been coming and going with pace. We have some exciting cars in preparation, so be sure to bookmark our coming soon page to get a sneak preview of the cars that are soon to hit the website… Cars often sell from this page before the photographer has set up his camera!
So whilst we wait for the cold weather and grey skies give way to warmer, longer days, what colourful cars have we re-homed in recent weeks?
1980 Mercedes-Benz 380SLC in Blue Green with Beige Leather
This isn’t just any SLC, it’s a really rather special one. Rebuilt from the ground up by SLSHOP over a period of time, it is fully restored and virtually new. The odometer might state 36,000 but the honest figure is really just 3,000 – that’s all it has covered since the restoration. Did you know the SLC is directly related to both the W111 Coupe of the 1960s and a modern Mercedes S Class? This article explains how.
1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL in Signal Red with Palomino Leather
The 5.6 litre 560SL was only offered to the USA, Australia and Japan, but these big cruisers make an excellent choice for European countries. This one is destined for Sunny Spain, where it will look fantastic on the Costa Del Sol. In Signal Red with luxurious Palamino Leather, this high specification car is sure to cause a stir wherever it wafts.
1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SL in Almandine Red with Beige Leather
When this car arrived in the showroom, it was one of those fantastic bright-yet-freezing-cold days, with crisp blue skies and a thick frost. In the bright mid-day sunlight we shot down the drive to test the heated seats, and fell completely in love with this car. Later that day as the sun dipped, the colour of the car changed completely. It went from a rich plum to a deep candy apple red as the sun dropped from burning yellow to glowing orange. We weren’t the only people to fall in love with this car… It wasn’t long before a deposit was paid and the car secured.
1988 Mercedes-Benz 500SL in Arctic White with Blue Leather
Speaking of high specification cars, this Arctic White 500SL has got it all. Finished in a very royal looking colour scheme, the blue leather isn’t the only expensive option this car enjoys. With more than £4,000 in factory options fitted in 1988 (including heated seats), this car would have left the showroom with a price tag of more than £120,000 in today’s money! It is now moving to a new home in the UK.
1988 Mercedes-Benz 300SL in Diamond Blue with Blue Leather
The high specification cars just keep coming! What’s great about the final two cars showcased here is they are both on the ‘wrong’ side of 100,000 miles, just going to show that provenance and condition are more important than the number on the odometer. This Diamond Blue car has been known to SLSHOP for some time. What makes it special is the fact it is a 300SL with all the options one might normally find on a 500SL… We hope that odometer climbs even higher before it returns for the next service.
1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL in Light Ivory with Palomino Leather
This very late model 380SL won a place in our hearts thanks to the rare colour combination and the way it drove. The previous owners used this car for numerous European tours, and as such it was always kept in absolutely fine fettle. To jump in and run it down the driveway was a joy, and we’re sure the new owners will be partaking in their own European tours to ensure this 380SL always has the holiday’s it has grown used to! A lovely new chapter for the car, and the new owners.

This car is accustomed to regular cleaning, good maintenance, big skies and the open road… We think the new owners will look after it just right.
