SLSHOP explains how they rectify the problem of a rusty bulkhead on an R107 SL, a well known achilles heel of an otherwise flawless classic car. Book a Bulkhead Check today by contacting [email protected].
Five Things You WON’T HEAR from organisations who don’t know what they are doing…
- An R107 bulkhead restoration requires millimetres of tolerance when re-fitting our Exclusive panel to house the chamber and ensure the motor fits properly. Just a slight miscalculation will cause excessive vibrations and even the inability to plug the blower motor in.
- Each bulkhead centre panel is situated in-between completely bespoke corners which match the original tolerances to ensure water drains correctly down and out.
- There are two types of Bulkheads – a round-back with a grommet and a flat-back with the grommet sat atop. Our craftsmen re-fabricate our pressing used for the centre panel, creating a rounded bulkhead beachhead. If this process is not followed, an array of issues could arise.
- Every effort is made to allow correct fitment of the components such as the wiper linkages which need to operate from the correct position.
- We re-fabricate the actual wiper mounting point to original standards to stop any play in its movement. This mounting point requires the correct pitch for freedom of wiper linkage motion.
- All our Bulkhead restorations are water-tight from metal up. This means that water prevention is guaranteed even before seam-seal and stone chip is applied.
