Graham Laing decided to retire 10 years earlier than planned to enjoy an epic driving tour with his SLC. The plan, inspired by conversations with his Father, was to drive the SLC from the southern most tip of mainland Europe in Spain to the northernmost tip of mainland Europe in Norway.
When he told his children, they said ‘you should write a blog about it’… So that’s exactly what Graham is doing. Graham approached the SLSHOP and asked whether we would be interested in hosting his work, and we were only too happy to share his story. The SLCenic Route was born!

Episode 27 – Day 30 Horten for some R&R
If you ever do anything quite as adventurous as this; 3 weeks without a break is a lot. Not for the SLC of course, just me. I needed an easy day.
After a quick search for long lost relatives, a break in the clouds meant I could go for a short saunter up into the hills surrounding the port of Horten before some more searching later in the day.
In 50 miles I had more enjoyment than the 500 miles crossing Sweden and Finland.
This is near the end of the Norway section of the trip, one of the things I’ll miss about Norway is the cars. Norwegians love old and classic cars. An off yellow lotus Europa drove past in Horten. Not sure how many Europas are left; they were one of my first dream cars. I’ve seen them on TV, at shows and in museums but never moving in real life. In a small town in Norway there was one just driving down a normal road on a Thursday morning and for no other reason than to get somewhere. Colin Chapman would have been pleased; cars after all were designed to be driven. Wish I had got my camera out in time to get a picture!
Norway also has lots and lots of big American V8s that make classic Merc V8s seem positively frugal. And at Norway petrol prices, they must be real enthusiasts. They do make a good noise though and I’m not sure I would fancy the tight and twisty mountain roads.
