Exclusive Service – Rolling Road Engine Set up
SLSHOP have invested in a Rolling Road – Dyno and we are the only specialist to provide state of the art, rolling road-based tuning for classic Mercedes-Benz motorcars. Carburettor as well as fuel injected (mechanical and electronic) cars from the 1950’s to the 1990’s are our focus.
As owners are now discovering, the results of a correctly set up car mean driving pleasure can be transformed. An engine behaves very differently “under load” out on the road compared to when revving freely on the workshop floor. These rollers simulate road conditions allowing our highly skilled technicians to quickly dial in the perfect timing and fuelling adjustments. Another SLSHOP innovation for our classic Mercedes-Benz community.
Rolling Road Tuning Services and Prices
A correctly installed and operated rolling road such as ours is an expensive asset to operate and maintain but it’s a smart investment for our customers. Time on our rollers with our experts can identify previously hidden ways to make your car accelerate more cleanly, pick up more briskly, find extra horsepower, eliminate frustrating flat spots, and improve running and fuel economy. And the rollers allow a master technician to identify these gains quickly and effectively.
Set up as part of wider works to your car whilst with us
If your car is in our workshops having any engine work, carburettor swap, major tune up or a diagnostic session then your car will automatically have time on our rollers at the same hourly rate that we charge for the rest of our services. For this reason, it is important to present your car to us with a minimum half a tank of super E5.
Stand-alone set up – Experience day
As a stand-alone service, if you would just like to lift your driving pleasure and would like an intense session on the rollers then we offer a full day’s service / experience.
Your car will spend a day with one of our master technicians and you will be provided with a full report of advancements we’ve made to your car. You’re even welcome to watch a run or two on the rollers subject to our health and safety constraints.
Putting a car on a Dyno in order to safely and responsibly run a vehicle on a dyno, correct strapping and wheels chocks must be in place as well as appropriate monitoring equipment.
Carburettor Tuning – 190SL and Ponton
Despite carburettors often being considered a ‘simpler’ alternative to MFI or EFI from a mechanical perspective, correctly tuning them to attain maximum improvements. When tuning carbs we will address air intake, jetting, needle heights and idle adjustments where necessary.
Mercedes-Benz opted for Solex Carbs in period, notoriously tricky to set up and find consistency, tuning processes take time to work through in that the carbs often need to be dismantled/removed each time a change needs to be made, and fuel drained etc before being re-assembled and run up to assess the impact of the changes.
For a transformational result we advocate a swap to a more reliable period Webber conversion. We have research, assembled, and tested a full, bespoke conversion kit and can install this for your 190 / Ponton etc. We also have two cost effective ways in which we can liberate a very handy 5%- 10% horsepower gain on these cars.
Running Injection Set up on 113 Pagoda, 108, 111, etc and 107 SL
Our master techs have the unique advantage of many, many years’ experience with these cars and the significance of this is that they understand the wider aspects of how to ensure a 113 Pagoda (or other classic Mercedes from the 1960’s) or 107 runs correctly. There are many aspects of fuelling, breathing, and timing that need to be checked and understood on a classic fuel injected Mercedes-Benz before those wheels turn on the roller and the gains can be found and dialled in. Our guys can find hidden pep in your engine, they can allow the rev counter to spin more freely and consistently through the rev range and crucially can eliminate flat spots.
A full day with our master Tech and resultant report is prices at £1470
What’s the big deal you might ask?
A customer who’s owned his Pagoda for 41 years was over the moon with the results of a recent engine set up and said his car had “never, ever driven as well”.
A 190 Owner could not believe that his car drives so well now. He’d thought that they (190’s) just drove like that (badly) and just accepted it. “If I had known what this car was capable of, I would have sorted it much, much sooner”
