Ex SLSHOP car with outstanding history of CARE and restoration, featuring air conditioning.
SLSHOP presents this final incarnation of the 380SL before it was succeeded by the 420SL. The M116 engine in 3.8-litre form offers a torquey, more raucous feeling in comparison to its successor. A 380SL possesses the slightly more muscle-car demeanour of the early R107 examples; with the sound and adequate power expected of an eight-cylinder luxury grand tourer.
This 380SL has been known to SLSHOP for almost ten years, having been serviced regularly by our team and previously sold by our sales department. Our intimate connection with this 380SL has enabled us to really understand its individual traits and work with its current owner over the years, to refine and iron out any of the age-related issues that have emerged. In the past two years we have replaced the timing chain and carried out a whole host of other improvements. Don’t be deterred by the mileage – well maintained eight cylinder variants are more than capable of absorbing hundreds of thousands of miles.
Prior to our involvement with the 380SL, this vehicle was the subject of extensive bodywork a mechanical restoration work. This work ranged from a complete strip down of the bodywork to enable the removal of corroded panels and integral structural elements. Repairs wre then carried out to the front cross member, chassis suspension mounting points, wheel arch repair panels and replacement of the rear wing with the fuel filler flap.
Part of the work also included the Bulkhead section, which was restored to good standards by the same organisation. Mechanically, the injection system was adjusted and setup efficiently, with new distributor cap and rotar arm fitted and the timing checked and re-set.
The extent of this work is covered over five pages of documentation included in the folder present with the vehicle. In summary, the car was tended to in all areas and finished with a correct under sealing process.
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a 380SL with period character; and one that has benefitted from the right investment by previous keepers.See how this 380SL has been enjoyed over the years by reading this article.
This beautiful R107 sits atop four 14” period-correct Mexican Hat wheels, with very clean tires with little wear all round. The paintwork is exceptional, thanks to the restoration that took place just over 10 years ago.
For touring purposes, this 380SL possesses Air Conditioning, Cruise Control and Rear Seats - three options that would have added quite a weighty figure to the already large asking price of an R107 in 1985. Also incorporated is an upgraded stereo system for a more modern auditory experience when out touring. The car comes with the original Becker radio should the new owner want to revert back to its original setup.
