Overview of this Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz 250SL (W113) | Horizon Blue | Blue MB Tex
Beautiful and rare Right-hand drive 250SL in Iconic colourway
This 250SL was ordered new by a Mr Terence Milton in July 1967, just before the introduction of the 280SL at the end of the same year. This 250SL therefore represents one of the final batches of the 250SL, which was only produced for 18 months before being replaced by the 280SL. For more information on the 250SL, read our overview of this Pagoda variant here.
The 250SL differs very little from a 280SL – they both possess the same charm and charism, as well as the abilities to drive great distances and in a spirited manner. They possess the same power and torque curves – 159 lb-ft (216 Nm) – making them a worthy alternative to the slightly more expensive and younger 280SL Pagoda.
Overview
This is a beautiful 250SL, with evidence of extensive recommissioning over the years. Telling the story of this Pagoda is dependent on reference documentation from the car’s file. Within this you will find an array of photos showing the vehicle being structurally restored. This includes the removal of the vehicle’s nearside panels and chassis rails, sills and front cross member. These have then been repainted in the period correct finish of Horizon Blue and new chrome bumpers fitted to the exterior.
Inside, the Blue MB Tex has, as expected, stood the test of time and retains the rich Blue finish as expected, with no tears or rips as you would find with vintage leather. The twill carpets with blue piping perfectly compliment the interior and sit alongside blue seat belts, a body-matched dashboard and blue dash topper. All chrome and Burl wood are in fantastic condition, with no scratches, cracks or dents. The ivory buttons on the original radio and the ivory Steering wheel add the quintessential vintage Mercedes flare expected of a sixties Pagoda.
ENGINE:
In the 1990s, this 250SL’s engine was rebuilt by esteemed Mercedes specialist, Roger Edwards, as indicated by the gloss finish to the engine block. The car was then sold for a sum of £22,500 following the rebuild with reference in the documentation stating that the vehicle needs to be run in. The mileage displayed is therefore indicative of an engine that has been rebuilt, hence the low figure of under 19,000 miles. More recently a modern ignition system has been fitted for a more reliable and economical start.
