2000 Mercedes-Benz SL320 (R129)

Azurite Blue Metallic (366) with Saffron Nappa Leather (234)

66,000 miles

A beautiful late model R129 that ticks all of the right boxes. A fantastic colour, a wonderful interior and superb service history.

The car shown here has been known to SLSHOP for some time, and that was sold by us to the current owner in 2013. For sale on behalf of the current owner, as a rare ‘one off’ here we will quote verbatim the letter written by the former keeper detailing the history of the car, because it’s simply superb to have these words from his own keyboard – and there couldn’t be a better sales pitch to sell the car shown here than these paragraphs below.

I purchased the car ‘remotely’ from the U.K when I was the marketing director for Mercedes-AMG in Stuttgart. I wanted an R129 and was fortunate to find this one.

The car was owned by a Classic Car Dealer who purchased it to sell, but liked it so much he registered it in his own name and drove it himself for a year. He purchased it from an older gentleman locally, who in turn purchased it from the family who had owned it since new.

Originally the car was registered to a company for use by the managing director. When he departed the company he took the car with him, registering it in his own name. Eventually it was transferred to his wife’s name after he passed away before then being transferred to her son when she began to drive less and less. Therefore the first four ‘owners’ were actually the same family before passing to the older gentleman mentioned above.

I purchased the car in 2013 and spent many hours on the paint and interior to make it as near mint as possible before driving it back to Stuttgart for use in Germany. While in Germany I handed the car over to the Mercedes Niederlassung (company-owner dealership) in Stuttgart for them to complete a full package of maintenance before taking the car on a long holiday road trip down through Switzerland and Italy. This consisted of an early B service, pre-emptive change of all fluids, including transmission, brakes and soft top mechanism, replacement of engine bay hoses, spark plugs, throttle sensor, throttle cable, replacement of under-bonnet insulation and purchase of a brand new MB wind deflector which is included with the car.

Most maintenance was completed earlier than scheduled because I wanted to be 100% sure of the car’s maintenance and also reliability during the upcoming trip. The car was then very much enjoyed through various mountain passes through Switzerland and Italy before spending some time in and around the Italian lakes. I’ve shared some photos of the trip with Bruce already but if you want me to send them to you also I can.

The car was returned to the U.K with me when I returned in 2014. Since then it has done about an average of 1,300 miles per year and hasn’t seen rain since 2014. The car has always been serviced by MB to sustain a full MB main dealer service history, which means it continues to benefit from Mercedes’ ‘Mobilo Life’ 30-year Programme providing free Mercedes roadside assistance, corrosion guarantee etc.

The crank position sensor was replaced in 2015, along with the light bulb to illuminate the heating controls. This is the only work that the car has ever needed and it has always flown through its MOTs in my ownership with no advisories.

All the maintenance and MOT Paperwork (German and English) is included in the history file.

I’m selling because of an upcoming further relocation abroad and I part with the car very unwillingly! It still pulls like a train when needed and cruises beautifully on long trips. I’ve spent many thousand on it and countless hours taking care of it. Wish I could keep it but there is no way that i could care for it in my absence. The car needs to be driven and I would rather someone enjoy it.”

The deliciously deep Azurite Blue paintwork on this late model R129 is perfectly contrasted by the Saffron Nappa Leather. Blue with cream will always be a winning combination for the clean lines of an R129 SL.

Specified by the first owner with burred walnut trim, and heated seats, this SL320 is exactly the right combination for an R129 SL. The mileage is backed up by a comprehensive service record and large file of receipts.

Fitted with the superb 3.2 litre V6 M112 engine, the SL320 provides just over 220bhp. The V6 engine feels lively and engaging – when combined with perfectly weighted steering and comfortable seats, this is a car well suited to long distance touring.

Captivating the very best of the era, this car is ready to be used and enjoyed. It is sure to impress on the grassy greens of your local classic car show, the waterfronts of Southern Europe and lengthy distance in-between!

INDUSTRY TRUSTED

I have followed SLSHOP with interest for some years now and recently took the plunge and purchased my dream car – they did not disappoint!
The whole experience from start to finish was superb. Their communication was excellent and they kept me
informed every step of the way. Thank you and I look forward to my next purchase!

I have just purchased a 280SL from SLSHOP. I have already purchased several parts from SLSHOP and have found all members of staff most helpful and it is more like dealing with a club than a commercial enterprise I would highly recommend using SLSHOP for cars, parts and most importantly impartial advice.

They put up with my indecision, inexperience and last minute demands and my car is the best thing I’ve ever bought. The most impressive thing about them is the after care though. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they’ve given me the best advice to make sure I get the most out of my car. Can you tell I’m obsessed with them all?
