The 5.6 litre V8 engine was the largest engine offered during R107 production, developed primarily for the American market. The increased displacement allowed Mercedes-Benz to maintain the performance benchmarks set by the 500SL; even when complying with the stringent emissions regulations set by the state of California. It was never offered for sale in European markets.
This iconic Mercedes-Benz 560SL was supplied new in Carlisle, Massachusetts, but has spent much of it’s life some 1,400 miles away in sunny Florida.
Export cars to the USA market were generally very high specification, and this 560SL is no different. With an Outside Temperature Indicator, Airbag, Automatic Antenna, Illuminated Mirrors Left and Right, Automatic Climate Control and a Folding Armrest, this is one very comfortable SL for covering long distances. It might lack heated seats but this isn’t something that the Florida based previous owner probably ever noticed…
When new this car would have been in American specification, complete with the high level brake light on the boot lid, large ‘impact’ bumpers and quad round headlamps. Imported to the UK in 2013, the first MOT in this country showed just 26,991 miles and no advisories. Since arriving in Europe it has been given the full conversion to European specification, done superbly and to a very high standard. In recent years it has been used very sparingly indeed, covering less than 1,000 miles since then.
Present with the car is the original plastic wallet, with the service history book and manuals, along with a spare key. The service history details the time spent in both Massachusetts and Florida, with the most recent service stamp being inked by SLSHOP prior to arrival in the showroom.
This is one fantastic looking car, a chance to acquire a the largest displacement R107 SL in what is arguably the most desirable colour.
An icon in it’s own right, a car that looks just at home on Palm Beach or Woolacombe Bay.

INDUSTRY TRUSTED
I have followed SLSHOP with interest for some years now and recently took the plunge and purchased my dream car – they did not disappoint!
The whole experience from start to finish was superb. Their communication was excellent and they kept me
informed every step of the way. Thank you and I look forward to my next purchase!
I have just purchased a 280SL from SLSHOP. I have already purchased several parts from SLSHOP and have found all members of staff most helpful and it is more like dealing with a club than a commercial enterprise I would highly recommend using SLSHOP for cars, parts and most importantly impartial advice.
They put up with my indecision, inexperience and last minute demands and my car is the best thing I’ve ever bought. The most impressive thing about them is the after care though. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they’ve given me the best advice to make sure I get the most out of my car. Can you tell I’m obsessed with them all?
