The Mercedes-Benz 420SL arrived in 1986, introduced for the last three years of R107 SL production. This 4.2 litre naturally aspirated V8 engine replaced the 3.8 litre 380SL, offered alongside the larger 5.0 litre V8 and six-cylinder 3.0 300SL until 1989. Although tens of thousands of 300SL and 500SL examples were produced, 420SL production numbered just 2,148, making it the most elusive of all R107 SL models.
Over on our Journal we have put together a comprehensive rundown on the 420SL engine, including further details on why this engine is such a great choice for the prospective R107 buyer. You can read that here.
This particular car first arrived at SLSHOP back in 2012, undergoing preparation for sale before we sold it to the current owner in the early days of our business. Having been enjoyed for the last few years, it is now time to find a new home for this lovely V8 SL.
We don’t need to wax lyrical about how Nautical Blue with Beige Leather is the perfect colour combination for a late model R107 SL, after a browse through the photographs we’re sure you will agree.
A lovely car with a great history, an ex SLSHOP car that’s ready for a new adventure.

INDUSTRY TRUSTED
I have followed SLSHOP with interest for some years now and recently took the plunge and purchased my dream car – they did not disappoint!
The whole experience from start to finish was superb. Their communication was excellent and they kept me
informed every step of the way. Thank you and I look forward to my next purchase!
I have just purchased a 280SL from SLSHOP. I have already purchased several parts from SLSHOP and have found all members of staff most helpful and it is more like dealing with a club than a commercial enterprise I would highly recommend using SLSHOP for cars, parts and most importantly impartial advice.
They put up with my indecision, inexperience and last minute demands and my car is the best thing I’ve ever bought. The most impressive thing about them is the after care though. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they’ve given me the best advice to make sure I get the most out of my car. Can you tell I’m obsessed with them all?
