The Mercedes-Benz 420SL was introduced in 1986, available in the R107 SL range until the end of production in 1989. The 420SL replaced the 380SL, which superseded the 350SL in 1976. You can read about this history of this engine in this article.

Compared to the 300SL and 500SL, the 420SL is a rarity. With just over 2,000 built, it was dwarfed in quantity by some 13,500 examples of the 300SLs and almost 20,000 500SLs.

Built in 1986 and registered on a ‘D’, this 420SL has been well cared for all of its life. It comes from long term ownership, having been used sparingly for the first decade of it’s life before going into storage…. It has covered less than 1,000 miles since 1996!

In recent years a recommissioning program has commenced, resulting in a spend of almost £20,000 to return the car to ‘as new’ condition.

Here is an exceptional car, rare being a 420SL and rare being finished in Thistle Green, a beautiful ‘period’ colour that’s looking better and better as time goes by. A lovely car to behold.
