Stock number 2053. 1968 G Plate Mercedes-Benz 280 SL 113 Pagoda. FACTORY BUILD DATA. Midnight Blue 904G / Grey leather/ Rear side seat/ Blue soft top. HISTORY FILE. This SL started life in the USA Pennsyvania in 1968 and serviced throughout for many years, The original service Green book, manuals, and brown plastic sleeve wallet are present. The vehicle was shipped to Germany during 2014 for a full nut and bolt concourse restoration which is evidenced by photo’s and various bills and receipts.
At this point the body shell was totally rebuilt and then introduced to a euro look of removing the side repeaters alongside headlights, bumpers etc. Every part of this car was taken care of to a very high standard, including, engine, drive train, Gearbox and suspension. The underneath is powder coated, zinc plated bolts and fully detailed to show standard. The Owner at the time decide to change the colour from Blue 287 to 904 Midnight blue. The Audio system has been upgraded with extra discreet speakers and all keeping the period look.
The child rear facing seat and all interior was finished in the most beautiful condition and in line with 280 SL correct carpets and leather. This 280 SL Pagoda has spent many hours with us in our workshops maintaining the perfect driving machine until perfection was achieved for the owner, to do this the whole injection system was overhauled with new injectors, and injection pump refurbishment. This is if not one of the best driving 280 SL’s we have experienced from cold start to Motorway cruising with confidence. A beautiful Pagoda to own and enjoy if you desire perfection.
Car History

Bulkhead Corrosion
Although the R107 is renowned for build quality, there is one chink in the armour – the bulkhead. Many cars that present well from the outside are hiding internal rust. Water from outside the car should drain out through specially designed channels, but over time, these become blocked forcing water inside the car. Once water has breached the blower motor cover in front of the windscreen, it slowly wreaks havoc from inside out. This delicate area did not have rust protection from the factory, and as the metal deteriorates it the water ingress can lead to faulty electrics, damp carpets and musty smells inside the cabin.
All our cars come with a 36 month bulkhead warranty.

During this process, anything that doesn’t meet our high standards will be attended to, which is why it can take some time for one of our cars to come to market.


2. How can I be sure this car is as good as it looks?

For added peace of mind, every sales car is subject to a road test to ensure that it behaves exactly as the factory intended. We test the car under load, idling in traffic, cruising on the motorway and ambling along country lanes in Worcestershire. We check the engine and drivetrain as well as all the controls, from the heaters to the adjustment of the seats.
3. Will my car be serviced before I collect it?

As with all our cars, this example will be sold with a full service using manufacturer correct filters and fluids. The car is then independently inspected and given a full 12 month MoT certificate.


4. Will my classic car come with a warranty?

Your classic Mercedes-Benz from The SL Shop will come with a full 24 month warranty, including the vital bulkhead, which has a 36 month warranty.

The bulkhead was the achilles heel of the R 107SL, a weakness which can affect even then youngest of cars. A corroded bulkhead can be hard to identify – a car may look the part but be suffering badly under the skin.
