Our Facebook followers will be aware that we're currently running a Summer Photography Competition for all of our fans to showcase their SLs in all their glory. You can catch up with some of our favourite pictures here.
A pleasant side effect of the competition is hearing of the fantastic, inspiring stories that our fans have in regards to how they came by their SLs.
Fan and contestant Jamil Goussous provided us with some beautiful images of an R107 380SL (USA Spec) which he bought and shipped halfway around the world from Miami, FL to Amman, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan just for his father.

Jamil provided us with a brief history of his family who are "Jordanian of Greek Roots to start with. (Jamil's) father did his Medicine Bachelor's in Ukraine and back then in the 70's the dean of his University had imported one from the states with the US specs (bumpers and headlights). It was one of a kind (Jamil's) father says. When he graduated with honours, the dean asked him what his motivation was...His answer was simply to collect enough money to buy the same car as yours!"
As time moved on, Jamil's father saved up enough money for an SL, but unfortunately due to his location or timing as with all things in life, the car was never available for him.
Jamil adds that "As the head of Forensic Pathology in Jordan and another country previously, crime solving was all he did. Of course along with taking care of us, making sure we went to the best schools and had all we needed."

"A Turkish friend of mine owns a logistics company (Olympia Logistics) in Miami, FL and I gave him a call and randomly asked him what he thinks those cars cost those days and if it is possible to find a mint or a near mint condition car with good history and possibly an interesting history which would make it more valuable (at least sentimentally)."

"I get a call [...] two months later after a long search having gone around Florida and nearby states. He had found a 1983, black in black 380SL which belonged to Brad Pitt's Brother who had been collecting mint classics but had recently quit (for another hobby perhaps!)."

"A month later the car was in Jordan. Taking about a week to move it from the port to the free zone and then customs formalities etc. Needless to say, the look on my father's face was indescribable. I told him I borrowed it from a friend for a day. A minute later I told him I was joking and that the car is his!"
Jamil explains "He nearly killed me, but then accepted it when he knew I paid for it using money saved from my Salary and not a loan! He took a spin around the block alone and then called my mother who was also standing outside with us saying he wants to pick her up in 5 seconds! Picked her up, went for ice cream. Since then the treatment the SL is getting at home is just like any member of this family!"
"My favourite part about this car is how no matter how slow you drive it, nobody honks his horn to ask you to move out of the way!! It is a mesmerising beauty to drive and look at it too!"
Jamil hastens to add "My father's favourite part is how the car reacts to his foot on the pedal. His Jaguar would never do that!"
