SLSHOP is delighted to present this fantastic matching number 280SL Pagoda sporting a timeless combination of Silver Grey with Red – a classic car colour associated with some of the world’s superstars – the Pininfarinas and the Maranellos; not to mention the ferocious bulls from Sant’Agata Bolognese. This is a Pagoda finished in a highly collectible coat; one that will stand the test of time, the change in fashion tides and the emergence of affluent generations born after the millennium.

EXTERIOR:

The Silver Grey (180) paintwork is in fantastic condition with absolutely no signs to indicate this vehicle is over 50 years old. The brightwork all around the vehicle is decadent as it should be, with no dents to the front or rear chrome bumpers. All side sill chrome strips are in tact and present. the fuel filler cap shimmers as it should, with the original MB logo still visible in the centre.  To the front, the headlamps are not cloudy and have not suffered from excessive condensation – the lamps are crisp and clean as should be expected from a luxury Pagoda.

The soft top is in our eyes, ‘one of the best fitting hoods’ we have ever come across. The hood has been carefully installed and is appropriately taught for a vehicle like this. You won’t struggle to put the soft top up as is the case with some Pagoda hoods. The edges of the hood where it meets the bodywork have been cared for and all sit flush as they should.

INSIDE:

The sumptuous Red Leather is rich in almost edible. This is a newly restored interior that has been executed extremely well. As you can see the same colour has been used throughout the interior, with new red carpets, dash topper, ash tray cover and even the seat backs. Similarly, in the boot, the boot liner has been finished in the same red.

Alongside this lovely vibrant interior is crisp and clean dials, original chrome dash strips, a polished gear selector gator and the original Becker Stereo. To the rear, a side mounted seat has been incorporated to allow you to accommodate younger members of the family. Of course, the roadster is meant for two, but the third ‘little’ seat is essential to keep future generations inspired by classic cars.

BENEATH THE BONNET:

The key to this vehicle is its matching number status. Over the years, many Mercedes Pagodas have been touched and corrupted by a various different outlets – some of which that often don’t have the appreciation or understanding of these fabulous machines. This Pagoda is not one of those examples. Every effort has been made to keep the original vehicle together, as it was from the factory.

As you can see from the imagery, the data card found on the inner wing in the engine bay shows the code 086 – this same number was stamped by Mercedes-Benz in 1969 on the top of the inside bonnet edge. This same number is found on the deck lid and relates to the engine and transmission. These are the hallmarks of a period correct Pagoda and something not always available on the market in 2022.

1. Old fluid has been flushed and replaced with Dot5 specification fluid

Interior:

1. B-Pillar Chromes have been replaced
2. Off and near side soft top upper window seals have been replaced

Underbody:

1. The underbody has been cleaned with Waxoyl applied to address surface corrosion to the passenger side floor pan.
