1993 Mercedes Benz R129 300 SL

An amazing car that is fundamentally sound and still drives superbly, but is now in need of some light restoration and refurbishment to make perfect. I’d love it to go to someone who has the time to really appreciate and enjoy all that this car has to offer. Price is potentially negotiable.

The car is finished in its factory colour of Signal Red, complete with the original mushroom leather interior, driver and passenger airbags, heat-insulating glass, heated rear window, tinted strip on windscreen, headlamp wash/wipe, 8-hole alloy wheels, electric windows, electric seats, electric/heated door mirrors, original MB EB3100 radio/cassette.

The car is mechanically sound on the whole having been serviced throughout its life and used regularly. A new exhaust was fitted in October 2020 and is now knocking slightly on occasions so may need some adjustment. The windscreen wiper now only works on fast speed but the washers still operate as expected. All other electrical items operate as far as I can tell but the electric windows are slow to rise these days. Sometimes the central locking plays up when operating from the drivers door but always works from the boot key lock. Infrared remote locking works sometimes. The bodywork needs some attention as the paint is delaminating in a few places and has rust spots in the usual place ahead of the front wheel arches. Paint is also crazing on one of the wheel arches. The interior is generally good but the drivers side bolster leather has splits in it and there is a small tear in the leather on the rollover bar. One of the handles on the central console roller shutters is broken and the drivers door locking pocket has been crudely repaired in the past, though it still locks, as does the passenger side. The soft top has splits in the plastic rear screen and the lining of the hardtop has come unstuck and is pulling out from the rubber window gaskets.

Odometer now reads 108000 miles. MOT due September 2023. 4 new Avon ZV7 tires fitted in July 2022 @107766 miles New exhaust fitted October 2020 @106000 miles New distributor cap, leads and plug fitted February 2020 @ 104939 miles Last major service was at the SL Shop in September 2019 @103946 miles, which included engine and gearbox oil and filter changes. 16 further stamps in service book.
