Bruce Greetham is well known to SLSHOP customers, and to the wider Mercedes-Benz community. As an avid Club Member, Concours Winner and Show Attendee, Bruce is a dyed-in-the-wool enthusiast – more than that, Bruce lives and breathes the classic Mercedes-Benz SL.
A mechanic by trade, Bruce spent a great deal of time working in Herefordshire looking after a truck fleet. As a one man band, Bruce was in charge of every aspect of maintenance, even caring for the management cars when they required routine work and repairs. It was here that Bruce first was first introduced to the Mercedes-Benz brand, looking after the directors then brand-new W124 Estate.
“I remember as I was underneath the car being impressed just by the way everything was put together. As a mechanic, in those days I was more interested in how things worked, and how they were built, than the aesthetic of the car itself. These Mercedes-Benz cars were on a different level to anything I’d repaired before, built better, heavier, stronger, more durable and just… put together right. It started a fire within me that has burned ever since, there’s just something about the Mercedes-Benz brand that gets under your skin”
Bruce promised himself a Mercedes-Benz, not knowing at the time that the three-pointed star would feature heavily in his future!
Eventually Bruce replaced his Cavalier with a Mercedes-Benz W124 Coupe, a car that needed some work which Bruce was only to happy to undertake. Ever the perfectionist, the car became a project in it’s own right, eventually winning a coveted concours award – impressive considering it was the young family’s only vehicle!
After almost two decades of hard work as a mechanic, Bruce was forced to take time off for health reasons. It was at this time that a chance meeting with Sam ensued. Both were at a crossroads in life, and the SL Shop became a reality. Working together they grew the business from a humble beginning to what it is today.
Bruce fondly remembers it was The SL Shop that first gave him access to a company car
“I’d always dreamed of having a company car, and with Sam and The SL Shop, that finally became a reality. It was a 15 year old Mercedes-Benz W124 Estate, an E200 with 200,000 miles on the clock! Sam bought it just for me, I loved that car, took it home and made it perfect!”
The E200 might be long gone but the Mercedes-Benz passion is stronger than ever. With SLSHOP now in purpose built premises, Bruce has progressed from a shed on a farm to a room with a view… Bruce’s office window overlooks a 50 car showroom.
Now a director of the business, Bruce spends a great deal of his time in a consultancy role, liaising with customers around the world and dealing with cars of every calibre. The SLSHOP has come a long way, and Bruce has taken the journey in his stride, taking a great sense of pride in the work that SLSHOP produce.

Bruce with his award-winning 500SL, and the car in detail – this 500SL became the flagship for SLSHOP.
For Bruce, SLSHOP is so much more than just another job, it is an extension of his hobby. When not at SLSHOP, Bruce can be found enjoying his SL, and loves nothing more than planning for a trip, always ensuring his SL has an appropriate parking space at any hotel he might happen to visit.
Having spent more time behind the wheel of SLs than most, Bruce’s knowledge with every engine is invaluable to customers in both the workshop and the showroom. With a wealth of real-world SL experience coming from an owner and enthusiast, Bruce is a staunch advocate for ‘do more, drive more, see more’.
A true SL enthusiast who spends every day encouraging and inspiring others.
