Mercedes-Benz 107 500 SL

Silver / Blue leather

Costing the price of a small house when new, the R107 500SL became an instant classic when it was launched in 1980. Despite the astronomical price, buyers could not get enough of Mercedes’ five-litre V8 powered roadster, often waiting more than a year to take delivery of their very own.

How things have changed! You can now hire our beautiful 500SL from just £245, with weekend hire £395 – and that includes insurance and breakdown cover.

Equipped with a four-speed automatic gearbox and finished in Anthracite Grey, our 500SL was built at the end of the R107’s production in 1989, so benefits from more power (242bhp), and improved handling thanks to revised front suspension. Our car also features a black leather interior and air conditioning, plus gorgeous alloy wheels. A fabric roof hides under a panel towards the rear and can be deployed in minutes if required.

It has everything it needs then, to whisk you away for a weekend or even longer – our hire cars have no mileage limits, remember, so we are more than happy to accommodate overseas travel, for example. We find many of our customers wish to try an R107 SL before purchasing their own and our hire cars are available for that very purpose – just let us know what you need and we will do our best to help you.

Car Specs

The R107 SL launched in 1971 and remained in production relatively unchanged for an impressive 18 years. A car that remains commercially competitive for nearly two decades must be doing something right. The R107 SL was available with either straight six or V8 engines, and we offer both variants in our hire fleet.

This car is a late model 500SL, using a 5.0 litre V8 engine and 4-speed automatic gearbox. It offers plenty of power and ample space for two. There are no rear seats.

Car Specs

The R107 SL was designed to be a consummate cruiser and it remains thus today, its drive more modern in feel than many expect, with controls that fall easily to hand, and the ride oh-so-comfortable – this something you cannot say about most modern cars today. Make no mistake, the R107 SL was one of the best cars in the world at the time – and many would argue, including us, that this still holds true.

Take our 500SL on a winding country road and its effortless drive comes to the fore, its wonderfully distinctive looks making it more than capable of holding its own on a chic high street, too. The classic car hire experience doesn’t get much better!
