Where will your Mercedes-Benz take you?

Bulkhead Corrosion

Although the R107 is renowned for build quality, there is one chink in the armour – the bulkhead. Many cars that present well from the outside are hiding internal rust. Water from outside the car should drain out through specially designed channels, but over time, these become blocked forcing water inside the car. Once water has breached the blower motor cover in front of the windscreen, it slowly wreaks havoc from inside out. This delicate area did not have rust protection from the factory, and as the metal deteriorates it the water ingress can lead to faulty electrics, damp carpets and musty smells inside the cabin.

All our cars come with a 36 month bulkhead warranty.

SLSHOP Unique 2 & 3 year warranty

Why buy a classic Mercedes-Benz from The SL Shop

We take great pride in finding new owners for high quality, investable classic cars. As Europe’s leading SL specialist, a wealth of experience in servicing and restoring classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles, so we only sell cars that we deem worthy to wear The SL Shop name. When you buy a car from The SL Shop, you can be sure that you are buying one of the very best examples available. We turn down many, many vehicles to arrive at the selection you find in our showroom.

1. Will it be mechanically reliable?

We want you to enjoy your classic car from the minute you first turn the key and our reputation is paramount. All of our showroom cars undergo a comprehensive pre-delivery inspection which includes multiple checks and extensive tests. During this process, anything that doesn’t meet our high standards will be attended to, which is why it can take some time for one of our cars to come to market.

2. How can I be sure this car is as good as it looks?

For added peace of mind, every sales car is subject to a road test to ensure that it behaves exactly as the factory intended. We test the car under load, idling in traffic, cruising on the motorway and ambling along country lanes in Worcestershire. We check the engine and drivetrain as well as all the controls, from the heaters to the adjustment of the seats.

3. Will my car be serviced before I collect it?

As with all our cars, this example will be sold with a full service using manufacturer correct filters and fluids. The car is then independently inspected and given a full 12 month MoT certificate.

4. Will my classic car come with a warranty?

Your classic Mercedes-Benz from The SL Shop will come with a full 24 month warranty, including the vital bulkhead, which has a 36 month warranty.

5. Why is the 36 month bulkhead warranty from The SL Shop so important?

The bulkhead was the achilles heel of the R 107SL, a weakness which can affect even then youngest of cars. A corroded bulkhead can be hard to identify – a car may look the part but be suffering badly under the skin.

Our work with the R 107 bulkhead has been documented extensively online, so we have an unparalleled understanding of this issue and highly recommend watching the video below to learn more about the subject.

We invested a significant amount of time and money into the research and development of our own bespoke panels to create a long term solution to the bulkhead problem. You can’t buy a complete bulkhead panel for an R107 anywhere other than The SL Shop, making us industry leaders in this particular area.

Our work with the bulkhead is more than just a repair, it’s a long term solution.

Our experience with the R 107 SL means you can rest assured that you are in safe hands with The SL Shop.
