When the Mercedes-Benz R107 SL was launched in 1971, the first shade of White that buyers could choose was ‘White 050’. This was replaced in 1975 by ‘Classic White 737’, which enjoyed a decade as an available option before being updated in 1985 by ‘Arctic White 147’. This new shade would stay with the SL until production ended in 1989, a fresher, sharper, brighter shade of white for the final few years of production.

This is a rare colour to find on an R107 SL, complimented best by a blue interior combined with a blue roof – illustrated by the car shown here.

Coming from long term ownership, the current registered keeper purchased this car twenty years ago, in February 2000 when the mileage was 39.000. In two decades of careful use the car has covered just 5,000 miles more, with an odometer reading today of 44,000 miles.

First appearing on our radar in 2016, the car arrived for a Health Check and subsequently underwent a significant amount of rectification work. When the decision was made to find a new owner for the car, further work commenced, including rear discs and pads, front pads, new engine mountings, new headlight wiper arms and two Michelin tyres. The car was given both an engine and gearbox service along with a complete clean down of all drainage holes. Between 2016 and 2018 some £6,000 has been spent on bringing this car to the superb standard in which it now sits, and we can attest that this car starts and drives exactly as a good quality SL should.

Equipped with some choice options from the factory, this is a very interesting specification SL. It boasts Cruise Control and Headlamp Wash / Wipe, both standard on the 500SL but cost options on a 300SL. There is also the benefit of rear seats, turning the R107 SL into a more practical four seater – albeit for small passengers, or very temporary use!

This is a very smart, low mileage SL in a rare colour – a car coming from long term careful ownership, and one that we have known for the last five years. A lovely car to look at, and beautiful to drive.
