About The SL Shop
Mercedes-Benz Classic Cars
The SL Shop is a family run independent Mercedes - Benz centred business dedicated to all things SL 107. Our approach is honest, straight forward and no nonsense. We're not interested in hitting targets, we're interested in providing the best service we can because if we achieve that the rest will fall into place naturally.
If you are visiting us for the first time our open door policy might come as a shock compared to what you may have experienced when buying or having your car serviced before. When you become a customer you're almost part of The SL Shop team and be prepared for some leg pulling...that's just our humour.
The team here has a huge amount of combined experience and passion for Classic Mercedes-Benz motor cars. Having a Mercedes Club Official as General Manager underpins our commitment to quality. Sam - the owner is just passionate about these cars and ensuring that our already strong reputation continues to set the standard in our industry.
Mercedes SL 107 owners come in all shapes and sizes. We have customers in their 20's through to their 80's. The appeal of these cars is so wide - young or old - male or female everyone has as soft spot for a Merc SL. They're part of quite a few large car collections and if we could find a supply of late model, sub 30k mile Nautic Blue with Mushroom cars then we might be able to retire early.
The great thing about SL 107's is they can be used every day without any grumbles or saved for special occasions and be relied upon to start and drive perfectly. Those customers who have moved on from British and Italian classics will fully endorse that one (sorry Stag fans).
There's a lot of information across our web site about engines, specifications, model years and the like. What's our overriding advice when buying a 107 SL? Buy the best condition car you can find within your budget in the colour you want (yes we know that sounds a bit girly). Don't get too hung up on the engine and the year the car was made and certainly ignore what the odometer says when it comes to judging the cars condition. Some of the best cars we've driven have way in excess of 100K miles and the engines will easily crack 200K + miles.
With modern cars all tending to look and drive the same nowadays, why not buy something that's fun to own and drive, simple to maintain, costs about 70% less to insure and is depreciation-proof. The classic car scene is one of the country’s fastest-growing passtimes and classic car ownership can be as interactive as you want it to be.
There are many clubs, meets and shows to get involved in or you can simply drive your Classic Merc SL out of the garage at the weekend, polish away and collect those Sunday papers.
